At Parehua Resort, our commitment to sustainability is woven into every aspect of our operations, reflecting the values of the Tiaki Promise. Our Grounds team takes pride in nurturing a diverse landscape of native Aotearoa flora, creating a sanctuary for birdlife such as the Ruru, Kōtuku, and Kārearea. A dedicated pest control programme helps to protect this delicate ecosystem.

Sustainability is at the heart of our guest experience, from energy-efficient lighting and refillable Ashley & Co toiletries to eco-conscious waste systems and our active Sustainable Stay programme. Through this initiative, all guests are automatically enrolled in towel and linen reuse, along with reduced servicing in exchange for a nightly Resort credit, promoting water conservation and a gentler approach to chemical use. We’re proud to be the only resort in the region offering complimentary EV charging, and our housekeeping team uses golf carts and pull trolleys for quieter, lower-impact mobility.

At York Bistro, our on-site restaurant, we partner with ethical suppliers such as First Light Wagyu, Yellow Brick Road, and Lumina Lamb, sourcing seasonal, sustainable produce. Local farmers collect food scraps, and we use a digital system to maintain high standards of food safety and quality.

Across our offices and public spaces, we embrace eco-friendly practices like paper and toner recycling, LED lighting, and support for the Wairarapa Dark Sky initiative. Our guest shuttle service encourages carpooling and helps reduce traffic in the region. We’ve also introduced digital processes to minimise paper use, and we’re working towards reducing single-use items throughout the resort. Wherever possible, we prioritise local and low-impact alternatives. We also continuously assess our suppliers to ensure they align with our sustainability values and help us uphold our commitment to kaitiakitanga, guardianship of our environment.
